inspiration

i wasn't going to post this but I can't stop thinking about it so I figured I'd share. I caught this over on swiss-miss -- it's a really short little talk, but I can't get the message out of my head: "I cannot depend on others to make things happen. I'll just have to do it myself."

i think we forget this as adults. as a kid you think, when i'm an adult, i'm going to do X. I'm going to eat ice cream for breakfast. I'm going to wear whatever i want. I'm going to stay out late. and then you become an adult and the limitations you were hoping to shed just ... remain, and YOU are the one imposing them on YOURSELF! it's amazing to me.

ultimately, you end up limiting yourself. you draw boundaries around your abilities and voluntarily secede some of your own personal agency. you let the limitations of your workplace determine the limitations of your life and you forget that actually, your personal productivity does not have to end at close of business.

if you are lacking complete fulfillment in your work place, consider starting a personal project. I happen to love my job, but even still, time constraints leave me unable to do stuff that interest me. well, that shouldn't be the case. i'm hoping to start a personal project soon ... i will share it with you all in a few weeks!

  2. you are right! so often i feel tired at the end of the work day and i don't have the energy to do anything else. but it's those little moments when you've done something you really wanted to do - fixed a bike, wrote a blog post... made something from scratch - that really give you energy and the satisfaction that the day was truly good!
