manhattanhenge

Another fun thing we did this past weekend was experience Manhattanhenge, during which "the setting sun aligns with the east–west streets of the main street grid" in the city. It really was a beautiful sight -- the approaching orange glow, the light and shadows, etc. But I found more delight in the spectacle of New Yorkers with cameras ready to capture a moment when their beloved island would be drenched sunlight. People say New Yorkers are the most jaded citizens of the world, but I beg to differ. (Photos by Chris)

  1. this was tough. i thought i might've burned a hole in my retina. also, it was a pretty hilarious scene, like when that pissed off driver revved his engine while everyone was in the crosswalk - and when everyone finally cleared away (it was OUR right of way), he slammed the gas, peeling away. "it's actually a medical condition," one camera-toting bystander said, motioning with his arms. "his balls are so huge that they rest on floor against the accelerator."

where's the shot of you pretending to shoot a picture of me? that's a good one.
